Thruxton and NG Racing’s fast, flowing airfield circuit played host this time, and what a weekend it turned into – Mark Taylor took a hat-trick of wins, Mike Smith gave him more than a fright on both Sunday outings, and Alex Williams saved his best for last. No 350s on the entry list this time, so it was 11a, 11b and 11d fighting it out across three races, the last of which was cut short by the red flag.
Race 1
Race One on Saturday afternoon was Mark Taylor’s from lights to flag, the Oakdene man taking the win with Jake Dettloff chasing him home for a fine second, Mike Smith third and Michael Russell fourth. Tony Perkin and Luke Bailey rounded out the Championship finishers, while Max Symonds’s only appearance of the weekend ended in retirement after four laps.
Calum Lockie set about his own weekend in the Clubman 500s with a comfortable win from Dorian Eardley and Simon Hocking, Stevan Radakovic fourth despite a ten-second jump-start penalty. Seb Perez, Sebastian Perez Jnr, Nick Bedford, Stuart Tonge and Ken Perch completed the class, while it was a first-lap retirement apiece for both Gordon Russell and Alex Williams – not the start either would have wanted.
Richard Hann continued his habit of making the Pre-55 class look easy, leading home Ben Kingham, Mike Farrall, Brian Riley and Fergus Hope-Cameron.

Race 2
Sunday morning brought glorious sunshine and one of the closest finishes of the year – Mark Taylor held on for the win but Mike Smith was right in his mirrors at the flag, just 0.156 of a second the difference between them, and it was Smith who walked away with the fastest lap of the race. Michael Russell took third from Daniel Jackson, making his first start of the weekend, with Tony Perkin and Luke Bailey following home. Jake Dettloff’s Sunday morning was over after four laps.
Calum Lockie made it two from two in the Clubman 500s, but the story of the race was Alex Williams, who bounced back from Saturday’s early exit to take a strong second, ahead of Dorian Eardley and Simon Hocking. Seb Perez, Sebastian Perez Jnr, Stevan Radakovic, Stuart Tonge, Nick Bedford and Ken Perch completed the class.
Richard Hann made it two wins from two in the Pre-55s as well, Ben Kingham again in close support and Brian Riley third, though it wasn’t to be for Mike Farrall or Fergus Hope-Cameron, both of whom retired.

Race 3
The final race of the weekend never quite reached its scheduled distance, a red flag bringing proceedings to an early halt, but not before Mark Taylor had wrapped up a clean sweep of the weekend, Mike Smith again finishing runner-up and again taking the fastest lap of the race for his trouble. Jake Dettloff recovered from Sunday morning’s disappointment to take third, with Michael Russell, Daniel Jackson, Tony Perkin and Luke Bailey following home.
Alex Williams went one better still in the Clubman 500s, taking the win – and the fastest lap in class – to finally get the better of Calum Lockie’s weekend-long form. Simon Hocking, Sebastian Perez Jnr, Seb Perez, Dorian Eardley, Stuart Tonge, Nick Bedford and Ken Perch rounded out the class.
And in the Pre-55s we unfortunately had no finishers as Fergus Cameron had the opportunity to ride a Manx Norton in the classic 500 clubman, and both Richard Hann and Mike Farrell had retired.

A hat-trick of wins for Mark Taylor, Mike Smith the fastest man on track on both Sunday outings without quite getting the better of him, and a real weekend of two halves for Alex Williams – DNF to podium to race winner. Thanks as ever to NG Racing, the marshals and medics for two smooth days of racing at a circuit that never fails to deliver.
Cheers Perky
